The MAGB co-ordinates an international ring check for laboratory analyses of coloured malts.
There are several methods in current use for analysis, and these are all catered for – although it would be fair to observe that a move towards standardised methods would hold benefits for the malting and brewing sectors in terms of comparability.
Sets of samples are distributed on a quarterly basis, comprising one malt with a colour in the range 25˚EBC to 400 ˚EBC, and one malt with a colour in the range 400 ˚EBC to 1500 ˚EBC.
Results are collated and reported to ring members with appropriate statistical analysis.
